0898 Beautiful South
was released in 1992 to wide critical acclaim. The band was
really beginning to make their mark on British Pop/Rock.
Although none of the singles sold particularly well, Old Red Eyes Is
Back performing best, the album was successful.
This was Briana's last album with The Beautiful South, she left
shortly after it's release and pursued a solo career.
Singles from this album were Old Red Eyes Is Back, We Are Each
Other, Bellbottomed Tear and 36D.

Q Review
The third album from
The Beautiful South further underlines their penchant for everyday
storylines and their reading of '90s reality. Like a modern day
musical version of those gritty true life black-and-white melodramas
of grim Northern life, the South offer us a '90s soap featuring
boozers and losers, reshaping the world and overthrowing the
government from the comfort of a bar stool. Last year's Old Red Eyes
Is Back is indicative of their commercial potential and they enhance
the narrative with three lead vocalists adding width to their
passion play. There are potential hits here and some well sketched
views of working-class life but, for a band who obviously deal with
personal politics, 0898 remains little more than well scripted
commentary offering few solutions but lots of songs.*** (3 STARS)
